Living in Discovery Bay
A unique resort-style community on Lantau Island developed in the 1970s, Discovery Bay is comprised of upmarket residential and commercial developments alongside a multitude of family friendly lifestyle options.
Properties
Garden houses and low-to-mid and high-rise buildings with enviable space and ocean and mountain views. A sizeable expatriate community lives in the district, drawn by lower density living, water sports and uncrowded streets. Popular with professionals who need fast access to the airport, which is also situated on Lantau Island.
Amenities
A large selection of leisure and wellness activities, function venues, including a renowned oceanfront alfresco dining development, a 400-metre-long beach, recreation clubs, golf club, international supermarkets, medical facilities, spas, yacht marina and the deluxe hotel Auberge Discovery Bay.
Transport
A 25-minute ferry ride from Central Pier 3, with shuttle buses from Sunny Bay or Tung Chung MTR Stations taking 15-20 minutes. Direct buses to Hong Kong International Airport takes 30 minutes. Entry is restricted to private vehicles, maintaining the eco-friendly environment. But private car drivers can utilise the open-air car park next to Sunny Bay MTR station or the car park at Citygate, Tung Chung, and connect by shuttle bus. Some residents use golf carts to get around.
Perks
Quiet streets, every amenity a multicultural town has to offer without the hectic crowds and big city pace, hill hikes on your doorstep, breath-taking ocean views and – some people say – cleaner air, possibly due to significantly less vehicle access.
Schools: Discovery Bay International School (primary, secondary and kindergarten) ESF Discovery College (primary and secondary) and Sunshine House Kindergarten.
