New to Hong Kong
Old or new?

New apartment buildings (post 1980) generally offer a turnkey solution but they also have their drawbacks.  On the whole they tend to be much smaller in size than similarly priced older (often referred to as “colonial”) buildings; however they will probably be equipped with more modern bathrooms and kitchens.

The larger complexes may also provide many more communal facilities such as a pool, gym, shuttle bus service, children’s play areas, supermarket etc (all with the associated management fees).

Older colonial style buildings are often better value and generally feature larger rooms and higher ceilings.  But be prepared for them to have bathrooms and kitchens that are of a lower standard than you are used to.  By their very nature these properties are more individual and therefore generally have fewer if any
communal amenities.

At Habitat we concentrate on seeking out the more unusual offerings in the market, and that’s one of the reasons we have such a strong following amongst the expat community.
